Come to Adelphi University on Long Island, New York for the AVP-USA Annual Gathering over the Memorial Day Weekend. We have an exciting program planned with guest speakers on Restorative Justice and Trauma Healing, We will have an off-Broadway play, “The Castle” and loads of mini-workshops.

Restorative Justice Speaker -

Barb Toews will set the
tone for the Saturday program with her insights on restorative justice.   She is a leading authority on the subject and the author of “The Little Book of Restorative Justice for People in Prison.”  Barb applies restorative justice in prison settings, incorporates the philosophy into offender and offender family programs and collaborates with incarcerated men and women as they develop their own restorative projects

Off-Broadway Play - Re-entry will be the theme for Sunday.  The Off-Broadway play “The Castle” stars four “ex-convicts” who relate their journeys of crime, deprivation and transformation. One of the four, Angel Ramos, is a member of the AVP family who facilitated workshops in prison and now attends Morningside Friends Meeting.   Following the play, Re-entry Resource Networking will feature re-entry related programs from throughout the New York area former inmates

Mini-Workshops On Saturday and Sunday there will be  dozens of workshops to choose from.  Find out about the latest developments in Youth Programs, New Exercises, Prison Coordination, Support Groups, and New Workshops in Parenting, Racism, and  much, much more.

AVP International will be featured on Monday.  Learn about what is happening in AVP around the world with a panel of international facilitators.

Friday’s Full-Day Program options include two 9-5 workshops and a prison tour.

Trauma Healing will be facilitated by Nadine Hoover, who has been conducting Trauma Healing workshops in Aceh Province in Indonesia to deal with the aftermath of the tsunami and 25 years of warfare. (See the Speaker's Page for details.)

Advanced Facilitation Skills will be led by Daniel Hunter, a social activist and specialist in group dynamics who has conducted workshops on leadership development in over a dozen countries. (See the Speaker's Page for details.)

Sing Sing Tour will visit the historic prison’s cell blocks and meet with inside facilitators.  Jackie Labatt-Simon, civilian volunteer, and Sean Pica, former inmate, will lead the 1-4 PM event.  The carpool will depart Adelphi at 11:00 AM.

Space is limited on all pre-conference activities.  Register early and add a day-fee.  The registration deadline for the Sing Sing tour is April 1 to allow for gate clearance paperwork

Entertainment will begin with an informal welcome for early arrivals on Thursday and the conference opening Friday evening.  Saturday evening we will hear from  Darren Ferguson and his Hip Hop Youth Choir.  On Sunday evening AVP talent will take the stage.
